Life with Fire Call For Pitches

Are you an early career audio storyteller who lives in a community that has been uniquely impacted by wildfire?

We are on the lookout for creators who reside in communities that are especially vulnerable to the impacts of wildfires (Indigenous, Hispanic, Black, migrant, low income, disabled or homeless communities, for example) to create a mini-series of narrative podcast episodes to be released through Life with Fire’s channels later this year.

We know that many of these communities are left behind in conversations about wildfire impacts and resilience-building efforts, as well as the collaboration and knowledge sharing we understand to be essential to creating fire-resilient communities and landscapes. And while these communities are increasingly vulnerable to a disproportionate share of wildfire impacts, we also recognize that they have long led the way in stewarding the land and driving change at the grassroots level, and we are especially excited to highlight the ways they build and sustain climate resilience in their own communities.

More details about this opportunity can be found in the document below. But here’s some of the important stuff:

Application deadline: August 1.

Anticipated publishing timeline: Late October-November

Payment: $700-$1000 depending on the complexity of the story and/or production process.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions prior to the application deadline—our contact is lifewithfirepod@gmail.com.

(And hey—if you don’t think you are qualified for this, we’re here to tell you that you probably are and that if you have a relevant, well-developed audio story idea, you should pitch us! We created this opportunity to amplify early-career audio journalists from underrepresented communities who can provide a unique perspective on their community’s relationship with wildfire, so if you think that might be you, we want to hear about it.)
